Insight on Leading Leaders

I’ve been blessed to meet many leaders from around the world over the years. At the time, I didn’t recognize that some had a leadership position, but that didn’t mean they were leaders in their field. Others had both the leadership position, and the leadership skills.

While most people may take notes on what is being discussed in a meeting, leaders take notes and then take action. We talked about a, b, and c in our meeting. Leaders will go back and execute the a’s, b’s, and c’s. Or, if they choose not to execute, they will let you know I will take care of b and c, but you need to take care of a.

That showcases the leadership ability of the individual, ensuring that they accept responsibility for what is in front of them. They don’t wait for someone to tell them this is your job. They don’t wait for someone to tell them we need you to do this. They just assume that they have to do it and take initiative.

They also engage other parties they feel need to be part of the conversation, since they may know that they have to lead a portion of the work. They communicate this portion of the work to the right person who should be leading that work.

These leadership skills and capabilities are powerful.

If you are interested in leading leaders, you don’t have to wait to see if you are around them or not. Leaders will show you as well as showcase what they can do right away. They take charge, or let go of charge to the right people, and do what they need to do to make sure the conversations move things to the next steps or actions.
