Reflecting on 2020

2020 is almost over, and we’re all hoping 2021 will be a better year. In my years of working with entrepreneurs and leaders globally, I’ve learned that these waning days of the year are a good time to RENEW. Here’s what I mean:

Reflect on what happened in 2020 — the good, the bad, the things you’ve learned. What will serve you moving forward, and what needs to be retired or released?

Energize: Take what went well, and focus on what you can do in 2021 to keep the energy flowing. What didn’t energize you or your business? Let it go! Stick with the things that support you in a positive, meaningful way.

Navigate the information and data related to 2020 to figure out where your focus should be in 2021 and beyond. Many times we can’t think beyond the next year, but if you really take the time to think about the next 3-5 years, or even 10-20, it can change the way you see the next 12 months. And remember: it doesn’t have to be perfect at this point. What went well? What can improve?

Educate yourself: What might you need to learn to move your ideas forward? If you are thinking of creating a podcast, for example, you could read a book about it or join a user group, listen to those you find energizing and think about how they do what they do.

Work! Put these ideas to work and don’t make it so hard that you could never succeed. Make it simple and straightforward. Create a list of the big picture items, then a list of immediate actions, then a timetable of when things need to be done, and a schedule for making it happen. Simply put — get to work!

BEFORE YOU GO

We see our blogs as opportunities for dialogue. Please share your thoughts as comments.

  1. RENEW 2021: What will you be doing?

  2. How will you end 2020 beside the resolutions we usually never complete?

  3. What other tools have you used to keep you going from one year to another?
