Servant Leaders on Overdrive

We’ve learned through many crises in the past, and during this current crisis, that servant leaders push themselves more and do more.

In our calls with leaders and entrepreneurs around the world over the past ten weeks, we’ve learned many are working twice as much as they were before the pandemic struck. Part of it is so they better understand what to do and how to save the organization or business. They are also serving the communities in which they live, providing support to others like themselves, or to their staff or community members.

This should not come as a surprise, because those who lead communities and entrepreneurs are generally driven by the community and are focused on providing for the community in any way they can.

But “overdrive” during a crisis can pile additional stress on leaders. So as you lead your organization through these tough times, please remember that you need to take time to reflect on your own needs and safety.

Whether establishing a network of your own, creating a safe zone for you to unwind, or finding new habits or activities so you can stay engaged intellectually beyond the crisis.

While all those things sound simple and doable, they become challenging during a crisis since you are always “ON.” Unfortunately, you can’t show a sign of weakness to the world during these times, since you are the one to whom people look for advice and guidance.
