Pitching your Business

We’ve met so many Entrepreneurs who say they never pitch their business. In reality, you are always pitching your business, even when you aren’t aware of it.

In our experience, Entrepreneurs around the planet equate pitching their business to raising cash. And while asking for money from investors is one way to pitch, it’s not the only way. You’re pitching your business to customers, to gain collaborative partners, to hire staff…and the list goes on.

Whether you are using a backdrop such as a slide deck or simply articulating what it is you do, you are pitching through your actions as well as your words. Do the brochures, flyers and websites say what you really mean and ask for what you really desire?

Remember to speak from the perspective of your prospective customer, not from your perspective. Not: We manufacture XYZ product, But: Customers are looking for XYZ product, and we plan to manufacture it.

That means you also have had to talk to some customers or prospective customers to articulate you story, so think about the customer first before you think about your business. And that applies to all the pitches you may be doing moving forward.

BEFORE YOU GO

We see our blogs as opportunities for dialogue. Please share your thoughts as comments.

  1. How do you make your pitch customer-centric regardless of who you are pitching (funders, buyers, payers, etc)?

  2. What other ways have you used to articulate your message?

  3. What have you done to sharpen your presentation skills?
