Do to Move Forward / Reflect to Grow

I have learned a few things in my blessed and humble experience working with leaders and entrepreneurs globally and learning about their journeys.

One of the most motivating insights I’ve gained is that when you DO things, when you act, when you convert problems into opportunities, you advance and keep moving forward.

Your life continues to prosper.

But the only way to GROW as an individual, an organization, or a community is by taking time to reflect on what’s been done. This is why I say:

DO to move forward, REFLECT to grow.

Want to keep moving forward—wherever that forward is taking you? Just keep doing. Keep doing what you are doing, do more of what you are doing, you will keep moving forward.

Once you are ready to GROW, however, you must take time to reflect and think through the different ideas and things that happened to you, by you, by others during your journey and consider what lessons can be learned that will allow you to grow.

Remember: There is a huge difference between moving forward and growing.

Moving forward is simply continuing the path and keeping advancement going.

Growing is more about the depth and the insights and the experience and knowledge that you can not only leverage for yourself but for the community in which you live, or the people with whom you interact.

As you continue this pathway of leading or starting businesses or leading organizations, think about what it is that you DO all day long, and how often you REFLECT on what you have done.

BEFORE YOU GO

We see our blogs as opportunities for dialogue. Please share your thoughts as comments.

  1. What do you do every day that keeps you going?

  2. What do you do every day that allows you to reflect on what you have learned from it?

  3. What else are you doing to continue to grow?
