Never the Space, Always the People
We have seen the ups and downs of many co-working spaces, incubators and accelerators supporting entrepreneurial activities locally and globally. One thing we have learned from all of them is that it’s never the place - it’s always the people.
It’s about the people who make a difference in everyday actions that connect people and resources. It about people taking actions to open doors for those who cannot reach them on their own.
In our experience most business advisors and conventional wisdom would advise against many of the places that people have chosen to open their businesses. What we’ve seen is that you need to make sure you have the right people with you when and while you do it.
We’ve seen buildings abandoned for decades here in Detroit, and globally, being converted to hub spaces these days. The physical space itself changes internally and externally, meaning the neighborhoods and the streets change along with the people.
In our humble opinion, working through these different spheres locally and globally, when you are opening a business, a co-working space, a non-profit, or some other initiative, think first and foremost about the people.
