Control What You Can Control

Control what you can control and let go of what you can’t.

In our calls with leaders and entrepreneurs around the world we’ve learned that although things can appear devastating at a high-level, the day-to-day operation can still be somewhat rewarding in serving communities — especially communities in need.

The concept behind control what you can control and let go of what you can’t is that you can’t change COVID and how it is affecting people or the economy. What you can change is how you react to it and what you do within the communities in which you live.

You probably are in business or are involved in an organization that serves the communities you live in. Rather than focusing on changing society, think about what can you do with what you have to reach the communities where they are right now.

Controlling what you can control will help you focus on what you can do with the resources and information you have, and the customers or prospects you may be able to reach based on those resources.

When you can focus on that, it is easier to control, and not worry much about what you can’t control or change.

We’re not saying you should give up on what you are trying to do.

What we are saying is worry about what you can control with what you have. Changing the whole world can happen only when we start changing the things we can control within the communities that we live in or can reach.

While you still may focus on reaching your bigger goal, it’s important to start chipping away on what you can do within the communities you have, the reach you may have.

BEFORE YOU GO

We see our blogs as opportunities for dialogue. Please share your thoughts as comments.

Think About:

  1. What can you do to let go of what you cannot control?

  2. How can you use what you can control to make a positive impact?

  3. What other resources or tools have you used to stay focused and do well in tough economic times?
