Compete with Yourself

One of the things we’ve learned by watching entrepreneurs and leaders around the globe is that while they love to compete with others, most of the time, they are competing with themselves.

What I mean by that is they are constantly trying to improve what they did yesterday or a week ago. They are always looking for and finding reasons and ways to do better. They aren’t necessarily frustrated about the results because they understand that this is an ongoing process not an end-all.

It’s an inspiring way to look at your life and your business. You’re never finished, and your finish line continually moves forward. For some, that can be exhausting. For many leaders that we’ve watched, it’s their daily inspiration.

The minute they achieve something they are ready to move on to whatever is next. Achievement, really, is nothing more than a stop along the overall journey.

As we go through these difficult days and possibly even the next few years, we know that this new “normal” is what we’ll have for the next 6 months - possibly even the next year.

You could choose not to participate. OR, you can choose to participate and move forward with whatever you have to do. And what you have to do is to compete with yourself against what you did last year.

How did you reach your customers? How did you engage your community? How did you keep things going? Sure, things might have been different a year ago. But do you remember when you first started? Things we different then, too. You have to get the attention of your customers and make sure they are feeling the love.

You might want to think about what you can do today - with the situation you are in today - to move forward today with what you have to offer today. It’s really about living the current moment, not reliving the past. It’s important that we learn from the past, but not live it over and over.
